Informed Consent
This document explains how your personal data, including health-related data, are collected and processed in connection with the use of the Health.be platform and related research and development activities.
This document is drafted in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR – Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and applicable Belgian data protection legislation.
By accepting this document, you provide your voluntary, informed and explicit consent to the processing of your personal data as described below.
1. Voluntary participation and impact of refusal
Your participation in this program and your consent to data processing are entirely voluntary.
- Refusing or withdrawing your consent has no negative consequences for your access to the Health.be platform;
- has no impact on any guidance or care provided outside the research purpose;
- does not affect your relationship with your healthcare provider.
You may withdraw your consent at any time as described in section 7.
2. Roles and responsibilities
- Your healthcare provider acts as the data controller for your personal data in the context of guidance and follow-up.
- Health.be acts as:
- a data processor on behalf of the healthcare provider;
- a data controller for research and development purposes, exclusively for anonymised or pseudonymised data.
Health.be does not provide medical, paramedical, therapeutic or diagnostic services.
3. Purposes of data processing
By agreeing to this informed consent, you authorise the use of your data for the following purposes:
- research and development to improve the Health.be and AloGluco platforms;
- optimisation and validation of algorithms and measurement methods;
- improving accuracy, stability and reliability of measurements;
- development of new features;
- statistical analysis and scientific research into health and lifestyle factors.
These processing activities are carried out solely for research, validation and optimisation purposes and not for medical diagnosis, clinical decision-making or therapeutic purposes.
Your data are not used for commercial marketing purposes, sold to third parties, or shared without your explicit consent, except where required by law.
4. Categories of processed data
a. Health and wellbeing data
- measurement values such as glucose levels and trends;
- sensor data from wearables;
- questionnaire responses;
- lifestyle and wellbeing information.
b. Technical and usage data
- interactions with the platform;
- error logs;
- feedback and usage statistics.
c. Demographic data
- age;
- gender;
- optionally provided lifestyle factors.
5. Data protection and confidentiality
- encryption during data storage and transmission;
- access limited to authorised personnel;
- anonymisation or pseudonymisation where possible;
- use of third-party service providers only under GDPR-compliant processing agreements.
6. Data retention
Your personal data are retained for a maximum period of five (5) years after completion of the research or development phase, or for as long as required by law.
After this period, your data will be securely deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
7. Withdrawal of consent
You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
- The withdrawal applies to future processing activities;
- data that have already been anonymised or lawfully processed as part of an ongoing research project may be retained, insofar as permitted by law.
8. Your rights under the GDPR
- right of access;
- right to rectification;
- right to erasure (where legally applicable);
- right to restriction of processing;
- right to data portability;
- right to object;
- right to withdraw consent.
